The Avengers movie

I realize that it's early, and that there's a very good chance that they're not done putting the team for this movie together... but really? Marvel has already cast 8 people for the Avengers movie, and only one of them - and he's not even an actual member of the team - is not white? And only one of them is a woman? There have been something like 100 members of the Avengers, and you couldn't find room for, like, Luke Cage or Warbird?

And when they realize this and start adding more women and non-white people, it'll look like blatant tokenism and/or an afterthought, since they've already made their priorities and key players clear. My guess? They'll go the route of The Ultimates and kill two birds with one stone by casting an Asian woman as The Wasp. (Cynicism Win.)

One of the persistent Avengers-rumours (which seem to have a better track record than... Nolan-Batman rumours, say) is that Eva Longoria will be The Wasp, which would fit with your guess.

I'm enough of a nerd to like the fact that they're using the original/Ultimates line-up, but there's certainly no reason Hawkeye had to be white. Or a man, even. (Except for those other nerds, I guess. The bad ones.)

Um, wow. If you ever feel like getting a face-full of smug, the footage for this is on YouTube. I guess Robert Downey Jr just IS Tony Stark now. (And not even cool Tony Stark, but drooling out flaccid quips, Iron Man 2 Tony Stark.) He also doesn't know what "reprise" means, apparently.

I bet they took one look at Jeremy Renner in The Hurt Locker and thought 'this IS Hawkeye'. But you're right - he would have been easy to recast as someone other than a white guy.

I'm not sure that I could take Eva Longoria seriously.
